(Wednesday, 30 June, 2010) eircom today announced that the company has been selected by Lansdowne Road Stadium Development Company (LRSDC) to provide Ireland’s newest sporting venue Aviva Stadium with a unique fibre based Internet and associated voice services. The three year contract is the largest communications contract signed by the Aviva stadium to date.

eircom was involved in a competitive tender process and was awarded the contract because of its cost effective, flexible and innovative solution. This announcement adds to eircom’s stadium footprint which currently includes a three year contract with Croke Park valued at €1.4m.

eircom’s solution has provided the Aviva stadium with the unique capability of “bursting” from 20Mb to 200Mb on a requirement basis to facilitate large scale conferences and events but eliminating the stadium’s need to pay for a 200Mb service all year round.

For full diversity, eircom’s bespoke solution includes Internet access and storage space in two of eircom’s state-of-the-art data centres thereby ensuring there is an ‘always-on’ connection.

In addition eircom has provided a platform for Next Generation products and value added services such as off-site data hosting, disaster recovery, video-conferencing and cloud computing.

Commenting on the announcement Ronan Kneafsey, Director Corporate Markets, eircom today said “Our leading edge solution is tailored to provide the Aviva Stadium with maximum efficiency, while maintaining costs and the flexibility required by a world class conference and sporting facility.”

Speaking on behalf of the stadium Bill Enright, Operations Director, said that it was imperative that a world class stadium such as Aviva had matching communications facilities.  “I believe eircom are providing us with the type of communications infrastructure that will suit our wide diversity of needs for many years to come.”
