eircom today announced that it will provide a next generation communications platform to the National University of Ireland Galway, (NUI Galway). This is a five year strategic project with an investment in excess of €1m. eircom will design, deliver and support a complete Unified Communications and Network Infrastructure platform for 3,000 users at NUI Galway, using Avaya and Cisco Systems solutions.
The new communications platform will provide a number of practical and financial benefits to NUI Galway. It will enable the staff, students and faculties to connect and collaborate on a mobile basis and have high-speed access to information. Voice users will experience enhanced services including unified messaging (e.g. voice mail in Outlook inbox access to the corporate directory.) On a financial level, it will reduce costs, improve operational efficiencies and manage technological change.
eircom’s strategic solution includes an Avaya IP Telephony system and a Unified Communications platform for the new Engineering building which will bring together all of the engineering departments. It also provides a new network infrastructure based on Cisco Systems and provides access to 5,000 network nodes. It will be fully compatible with the main campus infrastructure. eircom will also implement a comprehensive training plan and supply a highly experienced full-time engineer on site to operate and support the new and existing voice systems.
Commenting on the announcement, Ronan Kneafsey, Managing Director, eircom Business, said: “We are delighted to provide NUI Galway with a trusted and proven solution. This new platform will transform the way that the staff and students work and communicate in the ‘Campus of the Future’.”
